Our culture glorifies the new. Trendy garments with built-in obsolescence quickly lose appeal when they appear on the “what’s not” side of the “what’s hot” fashion column. So they’re relegated to the back of the closet….stuffed into a bottom drawer… and, if they’re not dumped into the trash, they eventually find their way to thrift and consignment stores where they languish under the humiliation of multiple markdowns and overpopulated racks.
As every savvy recycler knows, treasure often hides between purple power suits and polyester broomstick skirts. And the thrill of finding a mustard dupioni silk blouse or a fine gauge British wool dress makes the sometimes exhaustive searches worthwhile.
Mixed patterns...salvaged silk...souvenir scarves...exposed seams...a feeling of floatiness...raw edges. Those are a few things you can expect in my work.
I've been designing handbags and jewelry for about ten years and in 2005 I added recycled and redesigned clothing to the mix. I have been fortunate to sell my work in a variety of venues from a funky shop on Olvera Street in LA to The Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. I am honored to have recently been selected as the featured designer for Belle Armoire magazine. Although I'm proud of those accomplishments, my true joy comes in making an individual person happy to have stumbled across my work. So...thank you for finding me here on Etsy!
